Personally i dont care about 6GB vRAM because i pointless unless you use 4xMSAA 3x 1080p+ setups for now. Right now 3-4GB is more then enough for high end GPUs. Also 2304 SP seem a bit low unless the card overclocks beyond 1300MHZ

I think the $550 price was there to reflect on Nvidias GTX580 3GB.

Also because of low stocks sometimes is better to price higher so those that can pay will buy the card. $400 price is the correct price for HD 7970. No matter how you look at its GTX680 @$500 should have dropped too but it did not while being slower. Where you able to ever buy a Nvidia GTX080 GPU for $100-150 less then original value until they where replaced/? GTX580 price did not even drop with HD 7970 out. There are also those people that are not found here that would believe the higher price product is better.

I get your point but 7970s are available at below 400 point.
If there's somebody to point fingers at it's Nvidia's fault

Yeah, because the 7970's were NEVER $550 on release day. rolleyes.gif

That's $200 more than the card it replaced, for a 57% price increase.

Can you guess what the ONLY reason was that drove those prices down? NVIDIA.

If it wasn't for NVIDIA, 7970's would NOT be $400 today. Thanks to AMD, NVIDIA prices are high right now, crazy how that works huh?

Surely you want an example, right?

GTX 280 releases for $650, a week later it drops to $500, why? 4870.

GTX 480 - $499
GTX 580 - $499
GTX 680 - $499

AMD had good enough competition to keep those x80 cards at the $500 mark.

Exactly man. Some people just don't get it. Just like this guy below...

Do the math.

780 is $650, and is 23.5% faster, since you're asking people to do the math, maybe you should do the math first? tongue.gif

If it wasn't for 2 GE titles, the averages would be a lot higher.

That's missing the point. He's implying that such a card will be $3000

If the price and the performance is in a linear path with it following each other it doesn't really matter at all. You get a faster card but also a card that cost more. 30% more $ with 30% more performance is NO GAINS AT ALL.

AMD releases the 7970 for $550 instead of at the same price of their previous card, then nVidia releases the 680 for the same price as their last card that is cheaper and faster than AMD's offering, A week later they release a card that is also faster than the 7970 for $400 forcing AMD to reduce their prices. AMD is not your friend in teaming up against the evil empires of nVidia and intel, they wish to make money like everyone else. If the 7990 is any indication of AMD's commitment to their customers I wouldn't doubt that if this card is better than the 780 AMD will charge more than nVidia.

In short AMD price according to nVidia and intel as their offerings are more often than not subpar. It has been over 4 years since skus have increased price, to account for inflation $600 flagships are fair, because nVidia has no competition they price their cards at $50 more than they should be. I would buy the 8970 or 780 at $600 but not at $650, to me this is exactly where the cards should be.
If you feel you got a good deal on something, the price is too low.
