Poor drivers in the early days put the GTX680 above the 7970. Really if it wasn't for the poor drivers Nvidia wouldn't have gotten the sales they have now on the 600 series. People still pull up launch reviews to compare performance, no wonder some of those people went gtx680.
ATM AMD in the single card world is better then then Nvidia's 600 series.
One thing that wont happen with AMD's next gen cards is having drivers not designed around GCN. CF still scales great and add the frame time fix on that and you will be giving Nvidia a run against SLI.
Plus the entire game bundle thing has worked out pretty well for AMD, and the 7970/50 7870XT are some of the best cards to get if you looking for price/performance.
