I believe the 50% refers to idling. 50% reduction at full load is a very, very bold statement.

It is a big claim but the article is quite clear

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/156739-intel-haswell-will-draw-50-less-power-than-ivy-bridge

"Intel has preempted its formal Haswell unveil to announce that its chips will draw “50% less power” than Ivy Bridge on “active” workloads, such as playing a game or watching a movie."

I'm going to wait for benchmarks.

AMD: Bulldozer will bulldoze the competition! (No it didn't)

Intel: Ivy Bridge's IGP is great for gaming ("gaming demo" turned out to be a blatant VLC video recording)

Nividia: Fermi will be awesome! (In terms of being a mini oven, sure)

Rambus: RDRAM will be the future! (Hasn't introduced a new product to the market for over a decade)

Sony: PS Vita rocks! (Haha... Sadly no, in terms of its mediocre sales)

Apple: Pippin is worth buying, it's the jack of all trades at an affordable price! (And a master of none...)

EA: SecuROM will protect Spore from pirates. (We all know how efficient DRMs are, particularly SecuROM)

North Korea: We will destroy the United States and South Korea, and screw you China! (Aww... Look at that Yorkshire Terrier bark. How cute!)

I hate gaming laptops. I have used "entry" level laptops with high end Core 2 Duo's and 8600M up to high end Asus laptops with i7's and mobile 680m.
They are hot, the ergonomics are bad and the performance gets beat by any desktop with a comparable price.
The best case scenario is you are hooking up the gaming laptop to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and tucking the actual unit away.
Anyway, I guess it is cool that they are putting out one so thin.

Even in this small form factor they're actually not bad. However I too seem them as pointless in a gaming laptop - I'd rather save the money and cooling space, and go for gaming headphones.

It's less tinny? I tested an Asus gaming laptop that had one. It's certainly much better than without one, even if the overall sound quality will never reach separate systems or headphones. Sometimes its just convenient to use the built in speakers.

Sager NP 9130 and 9150 has a subwoofer as well, and I believe it's also available on larger laptops.
