Please Help - MSi H77 Chipset - which processor?!

Thread Starter
I have just bought a h77 chipset motherboard and am not wanting to play games in anyway at all. I have also bought a samsung 840 ssd and some memory to go with it.

I cant decide wether to get an i7 3770 or an i5 3570. will there be much performance difference between the two? To be honest, i only really care about how fast the computer boots up and how fast applications load like photoshop.

Kindest regards

James

The main difference between the 3570 and the 3770 is hyperthreading. Hyperthreading allows the 3770 to handle more threads at once and makes it a better overall multitasker than the 3570. However, I have the 3570k, and the stock speeds are more than fast enough to handle applications like Photoshop. The only instance where I would recommend the 3770 is if you are doing video editing.

Get the Xeon E3-1230V2. It's a i7-3770, with its IGP disabled and a added support for ECC (Error-correcting code memory), which are used in servers. And the price of the 1230 is same as the 3570. So, you get 4 cores and 8 threads for the price of a 3570. If you don't have a discrete GPU, you can get them very cheap. You do not need anything too powerful.

Honestly, you need something with an iGPU if you're doing photoshop, video or other Quicksync supported applications. Read up on QuickSync, it is what changed the game starting with Sandy Bridge for creative applications.
