I think my CPU is bottle-necking my GTX 560 1GB SC (Non-TI)? Could someone help me out?

Hey there, I'm new here so I hope I'm in the right thread. So my question is this: Is my AMD Athlon II X3 455 bottle-necking the performance of my GTX 560 1GB SC (Non-TI)?

My roommate informed me that since my processor LACKS L3 cache, it is significantly inhibiting the performance of my graphics card. Therefore, if I shell out some money for a new processor, he told me that I would see somewhere close to a DOUBLE in the performance of my graphics card from having L3 cache in my processor.

Just wanted to make sure that this is correct before I run off and buy new parts for my computer. Feel free to ask questions, and give suggestions. (:

GPU: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1617/ (this was the only link I could find for the specs of my GPU)

Let me know if you need anymore hardware information or not!

I don't think your x3 would bottleneck your current 560ti. But also, if you could provide some details of your system and what FPS you get with the games that you play, we could determine whether the card and the CPU is maxed out or is there something that can be done to increase the performance further.

Your X3 455 is not bottlenecking the 560 Ti. Certainly not enough of a bottleneck to hold you back 50%. The lack of L3 cache on that CPU is probably dropping it's net performance by 3-5% tops.

Thanks for the help so far guys. By the way, it is just a GTX 560, NOT a GTX 560Ti. I will benchmark it with Heaven and post the results tomorrow. thanks again guys (:

Depending on the game. Yes it might bottleneck the card.
In games like Skyrim, Wow, Battlefield 3 ... etc . you might see nice improvements by upgrading to 2500K for example.

Hey there, I tested my graphics card on Passmark today, and here is a picture of the results: http://i.imgur.com/ofIQN7f.png

The results for my graphics card are underneath "3D Graphics Mark". I scored a 2558

For Passmark's database, they say that the GTX 560 should score around a 3,072. Here is where I got that info: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

That is a ~20% decrease in what it is supposed to be scoring at.

What do you guys think could be the problem for such a decrease?

Thanks,
