FX 6300 Temp Readings Confusion

Thread Starter
Well I just picked up a 6300 today and dropped it into my rig and I am getting some confusing numbers from Core Temp.

I have used this program to monitor my cpu temps for as long as I can remember but with this CPU it is reading a 9°C idle temp, the problem is the air my rad is sucking in is 22.5°C.

Even HWInfo64 is reading a CPU temp of 9°C?

The Fatal1ty software shows the CPU at 30°C which sounds a bit better to me but why are the other two programs not reading correctly?

Core temp is reading wrong you need to look at package temps

Is there any way to make it read the correct temps?
hello, give it some work, if its down clocked its using 0.9v and is cold, as soon as it starts up its will jump straight to 20c+, probably from just the voltage and multiplier alone.
the cpu or package temp is the temp to monitor, unless your core temp gets higher than the package temp.

Yep AMD calibrated the core sensors to be most accurate at higher temps, a side effect of this means it displays complete gobbledygook at idle.

The core readings correct around 35c and over, what I do is use the socket reading (CPU) at idle then the on die sensor (core) as it heats up....

With regard to core temps it's mainly the idle temps which are wrong but the load temps usually report the right core temps. Load temps are important.

well my GF's (FX 6100) reads at 30c+- 5c most of the time under load right now with this heat wave it's reading 50c I haven't actually looked at her idle temps so those I am unsure on
