ATI 7950 Buzzing?

Thread Starter
I have a 7950 that appears to be buzzing under use. kind of sounds like an electrical buzz. its not a whine.

Its definetly coming from the GPU, i made sure to double check.

The card runs fine, temps are super low. I just took it apart and cleaned all the dust. its not a loud noise. you have to put your ears next to the case/gpu to hear it. just trying to find out if these gpu do in fact make some small amout of noise.

Sounds like what you're referring to is coil whine, which frequently pops up when the GPU is loading a lot of frames like on a games menu or a very old game with no vsync

ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB 1100/1400

Idle is 30c and max is 65c

I dont think its coil whine, i have heard it before and it sounds different then this. this is probably a ridiculous example but it sounds like this, you can only hear it really close up.

the first few seconds of this video:

let it cool down reset to stock clocks and see if noise continues, I read somewhere that the sapphires might have issues with a loose heat sink, maybe re torque your screws?

When i took it out to clean i re torqued everything nice and tight. it wasn't loose at all though.

I reset the clocks and i'm letting it cool down.

maybe it is coil whine, but i figured it would sound like a whine?

I had the same kind of problem on my 7950 too. My model was the 100352-2l. It only buzzed when it reach a certain temp point and fan speed. I opened my case while the card was buzzing and tried to check where the sound was coming from. I lifted the card gently and the noise stopped. I figured the problem was something between the heatsink, shroud and fans. So I just decided to re-seat the card and reapply a better TIM as I wasn't too happy with my temps too. After reapplying TIM and re-seating the heatsink, the noise went away and my temps dropped by more than 20c. So my advice is to try to re-seat your heatsink and replace the TIM on your 7950 if you can. Maybe that will fix your problem; not really 100% sure if it will fix the buzzing noise, but its worth doing it.
