FX-8150 way too hot!

Thread Starter
So i have an FX-8150 in a Sabertooth 990FX. It's running at 3.8Ghz, 2600Mhz / 2200Mhz HT and NB Freq. Using a Noctua NH12-something (its the massive 120mm one with 2 fans). I manage to get temps of 60+ under load...

Perhaps someone here can enlighten me as to why haha, give me some general settings i should be at for overclocking as a guideline so i can fix this. Also did just reapply my cooler with new Noctua NH-1 Thermal Compound has mad no difference.

Wow, 73*C, Yikes!!!

That cooler should easily handle that CPu and the voltage, did you apply thermal paste? If so, try reapplying, as that is maybe your best bet.

And IBT is much hotter than Prime95, so use P95, as neither way will any program get it as hot as that

I already did reapply, i had antec formula 7 before, using the noctua stuff now, even when i had formula 7 the temps were pretty horrible. Is it possible that the retention bracket or something isn't sitting right?

Just did a quick prime95 temps are still insane, i might try reset my bios settings see what difference i get a stock settings. maybe i've just done something horribly wrong :S

Could just be possible that you got a not so great batch unit. How did you apply you TIM?

Just a small amount of thermal compound on the middle of the cpu, then screwed the heatsink on evenly.

The heatsink is more than aduqeate for that CPU with a decent overclock, however, the heatsink is either not seated correctley or the TIM hasen't been applied correctly.

To apply the TIM, all you need is a small dot in the center of the CPU, then carefully apply the heatsink and screw it down evenly until tight.

hello
you can also lose some voltage as it should be stable at 4ghz with 1.29v with the right cpu llc turned on (try medium or high).
and check you case fans, you need a lot of fresh air in to the case.
and yes there ridiculously hot.
