Time to upgrade GTX 480...suggestions? - Page 2

I am sort of in the same boat as you but with 2x 460s 1GB. I'll be picking up a 7970 GHZ edition this time around. If need be crossfire it with another one later down the road.

That and my heat tolerance must have gotten worse since the heat while gaming just warms up the apartment like a heater!

yeah, i think i have been hit with the same intolerance as of late.
the fan noise has been getting to me, non stop jet engine level cyclone.

from what little XP i have with 6xx cards from friends and family, those things are night and day difference when it comes to heat and noise to our 480s.

Seen used 680's go on the market place for 380$. Lightnings generally go for around 420$. If you can get your hands on one I would do it for sure! It would be a massive upgrade over your current 480. I was able to pick up a couple of 580's for 460$. But that would use more power than your current set up for sure.

my vote is for 680 or 7970. Used. No sense in buying brand new right now as you could save a whole lot of money on the market place thumb.gif

GTX 770/680, HD 7970 GE are the options in that price range.

I am exactly in the same boat. My overclocked GTX 480 just won't die and it is performing quite well. I'd like to upgrade it but at the same time, with the 780 out, I feel like going to a 680/ 7970ghz or a 770 won't be enough of an upgrade to last another 2 or 3 years. On the other hand, $650 for a single gpu card is out of my budget. I think I'll just wait until AMD has its new offering later this year so that the asked price from both sides diminishes.

There's nothing wrong with taking that approach as long as you're OK with how your 480's holding up for now.

However if you do change your mind before AMD rolls out their new line, I'd recommend getting something like the EVGA's GTX 770 FTW 4GB w/ ACX cooler which should come out shortly.
