Asus Xonar Essence STX problems. Help?

Hey guyyys! Always been an overclock lurker but never had a problem I couldn't find a fix for until today, and after about 8 hours of trying to get my brand new Xonar Essence STX to work, I think I'm about ready to pull my hair out...!

The issue:
Firstly, my audio is stating "No Audio Output Device is installed"

Secondly, whenever I try to click on something in the Xonar Audio Center, it crashes and I'm forced to close it.

The story so far...
I'm running Windows 7 64bit and have downloaded the latest drivers from the website. I used the setup.exe within the WIN7 folder.

My card is in a PCIe x16 slot. I've tried two different PCIe x16s despite knowing they're both working perfectly.

I've tried 3 different molex connectors.

I have standard stereo headphones in the headphone jack, and ASTRO A50s in the SPDIF optical output. Getting sound from neither. I've also tried speakers but all they did was crackle.

Onboard audio is disabled from BIOS.

I have reinstalled the drivers heck knows how many times, making sure to cleanly remove them each time using Driver Sweeper followed by CCleaner in Safe Mode. I even made sure to delete all Realtek and Creative drivers.

I've even tried the unofficial driver but it gives me the same problems (crashing and no audio device).

I've checked my Hardware ID and it's PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_8788&SUBSYS_835C1043, so the PCIe hasn't been overwritten in an update.

My Playback devices show as: [link]
And my Device Manager shows as: [link]

...So, yeah. Any advice? frown.gif Knowing my luck it's probably something....ridiculously simple.

Thats rather odd! I was going to suggest making sure the power connector is fully in but looks like you have tried a couple of molex's

Windows seems to be recognising the card as its listed in device manager and the audio panel...hmmm

You say you have also tried unofficial drivers which i was going to suggest too.

Windows 7 / 8 normally says no audio device when it cant detect headphones or speakers...sounds like the output on your card could be broken? Weird again how you have two audio sources connected by different inputs and neither work?

Yep, neither work! Was even tempted to try the third but I'd bet the result would be just the same. This definitely has to be the strangest issue I've ever come across.

Wondering if returning it for the ST (standard PCI slot) would make any difference?

Are you able to get sound (or at least have the system report functionality) through the NVidia sound device (your GPU)? - Device manager says you have it. There's a possibility it's that that is causing the issues/conflicts.

My Xonar Audio Center does crash occasionally but I'm able to just restart it.

It's detected on device manager just fine. My mobo is an EVGA nForce 780i SLI Motherboard, which dates it 08...not much older than the STX. frown.gif All chipsets have been reinstalled and updated.

I've never actually tried getting any audio through NVidia sound device, only ever High Definition Audio Device (which I disabled in BIOS when installing my STX card). I'm going to disable them and give it another shot!

Sadly nope! My second PC's mobo is centuries old frown.gif I'm wondering if it is the card itself, though....

I,ve also been having the same problems with this card. I,ve tried all the available pcie slots on the motherboard, tried 4 seperate molex connectors and I dont know how many drivers!!! This is one of the most frustrating pieces of hardware I have ever encountered mad.gif. It seems to me that using the latest uni xonar driver and using a program called Ready driver plus http://www.citadelindustries.net/rdp.php ( this will allow you to use unsigned drivers on a windows7 64 bit pc). keeps the card quite stable in my system.

Did you get it fixed? Have you tried this driver yet? ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers 1.64 hope it helps.. thumb.gif
