What quiet CPU cooler would I get the most bang for my buck if I don't plan to overclock? - Page 5

I think the OP should go with the 212+ if he can find it cheaper than the evo, but if not, the evo. Both are solid performers for the price.

As for the CPU, I think he should still go with the K series. You may not want to overclock now, but at some point you might change your mind. Having the option is always nice. Believe me, a friend of mine who is a total noob regrets getting the non-K series now, because he would have liked the option now approximately 1 year later. It's worth the price difference.

All that having been said, why not just wait for Haswell and grab a 4770k? It will probably be similarly priced and will likely be more powerful out of the box.

Also, for the motherboard it's all about the features you want/need especially if you don't intend to overclock much, but I'd say go with at least a p8z77v pro or the z77 sabertooth. I believe both are in the same price range and both are Asus.

I agree with getting a K chip, as it gives you more option. As for Haswell, I don't think the improvement over the Ivy is big enough to justify it... Personally I'd go with a 3770K, unless you want the extra powerful integrated graphics...

I'm no Intel expert, so I'm probably just rambling.

You can pretty much regulate as many fans you want via your CPU fan header and an adequate pwm splitter. So no need to turn x amount of knobs everytime you play a game or so...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought asking for +rep isn't allowed as stated in ToS?

Anyway back on topic, PWM splitter on motherboard header sounds like its the way to go.

(Of course I've been meaning to ask if power supplied by different motherboard headers would be enough etc, but that's for another time. )

Most good PWM splitter rpm signal to motherboard and only use the motherboard for PWM signal. The 12v power for PWM fans is with a molex connector from PSU. PWM signal will power 8 or so fans easily.

Sorry to hijack again, but let me see if this is correct....

For example, if I was wanting to sync fan speeds through SpeedFan, and for example's sake, I would have 2 Corsair SP120 PWM.

I would then plug the PWM ends of the fans to the splitter into motherboard, and power the fans by connecting the molex end of the fans as well to PSU? (Dunno if SP120 PWM has both on same cable.)

Sorry for my n00bness and the hijacking. Damn I hijack too often...

For those who have the 212 EVO, will it have clearance issues with RAM? I plan to get the Corsair Dominator 2 ticks each of 8GB.

I use the motherboard and ram in my sig, and it blocks the first ram slot.
