Howdy All, I was one of the lucky keyboard winners during the SC2 contest.

Hi There!
Congrats on your win!

We are checking keyboard stock levels tomorrow and should know exactly what we have available. If you have a preference in keyboard switch type, please let us know! Ideally, please let us know your top three (if you have a preference).

Please also let us know your FULL shipping address and email address (if you have not provided it already).

From there, TankGuys will be shipping you your prize! This should happen within the next 7 days.

Enjoy your keyboard!

I've read a few threads here and there but still haven't found particular information on what to avoid, I have no experience regarding mech keyboards.
The type of typist I am it varies so I am not too fussed about what have regarding that but during gaming I could say the less I lift my finger's the better (including quick lift and drop as if the finger is barely moving on a single key)

I boiled down to what I might like (Browns), But don't know what others to choose or avoid.
Would prefer people with and possibly a demonstration in certain scenarios to explain why A is better than B (In their opinion)
It's my understanding that Browns are the better common switch-type for first time mechanical keyboard users. They excel in both typing and are a great gaming switch. IMO get what you are leaning towards, and get the MX Brown.

I really love my MX Blues, and am happy with my choice, they are a joy to type on, noise isn't an issue. And I can't really notice it effecting my game performance (what little I do).

Just my general opinion, any switch is going to be a big improvement from rubber domes. wink.gif

Grats on the new KB !

Looks like my choice so far is
1)Brown
2) Blue
3 Red / Black / White

If I judge the stock at TankGuys which would be the better choice black / red? the first 2 choices look to be null but that is just making an assumption.

Black and Red are Linear (no feedback), Blue and Brown are Tactile (have feedback).

The clicking of Blues can be great for additional audio feedback but if you live with someone or really like to get into the atmosphere of a game they can be pretty distracting/annoying so i'd rarely recommend them though they're great for certain people. The other 3 most common color cherry switches don't click so are quieter.

Browns have feedback and are pretty much the great all around mechanical switch choice. The feedback makes them a pleasure to use whether you're typing or gaming - I find while one gets used to typing with the Linear switches they never really become a rush or joy for long text documents and such.

Black and Red switches do not have feedback which often makes them weird at first for someone with no experience with mechanicals - especially for typing. Their advantage is that they are arguably the best for double-tapping since they are the best (in my opinion) at "floating" around the actuation point - you can apply the same amount of force all the way through a keypress whereas with Blues and Browns the feedback point requires an increase in force just before the key activation.

Reds are basically lighter Blacks so they are less exhausting though some find them too light/easy to accidentally actuate until they get used to them.

Personally i love Blues. I tried the linear reds and blacks and did not like the feel. Tried browns but still preferred blues for typing. They are also good for gaming. Maybe not the best switch for gaming but very good.

I really think MX Browns will please the most people, a good all-around switch, whereas Blue, Black, Red are niche switches; Blue for typists and Black and Red for competitive FPS gaming.

BUT now that I think of it, a lot of competitive SC2 gamers swear by their MX Blues so maybe you would love the MX Blues thinking.gif

Yeah was just looking over some random videos and the blue's intrigued me with the whole jumping into the deep end kind of things.

Think I'll go with this list

1) Blue
2) Brown
3) Black

Going to sit on this until tomorrow then reply with a choice if no one say's otherwise. Cheers for the help guys smile.gif
post #8 of 14
You will like any of them, I suggest browns first but it doesn't matter.

Be prepared for noise with blues, they do have a certain high pitched resonance on top of the normal clicking that I couldn't stand when situations were quiet... but to be honest you don't normally realise the noise yourself unless you try to smile.gif

Noise wouldn't be a problem for me. Only time I'll possibly hear it is if I don't have my headset on in which case, sound wouldn't be a priority then.
Cheers guys. I'm just going to jump into it with the current list and then eventually grab a sample kit if I am somehow not satisfied.
You seem to play all sort of games, I'd go with Browns or Reds.

This might help.
