How can my friends i7-950 (not overclocked) be faster than mine?

Hello,

Me and my friend both looked @ dxdiag and we both have the exact same CPU
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.1GHz.

Yet his cpu score is higher then mine and he is getting HIGHER fps in GAMES
even when I got a gpu thats almost 2x better. Also both computers are not overclocked.

These are the results on www.3dmark.com

Mine: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6647875
My friends: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6637914

My Physics Score: 6353
My friends Physics Score: 7137

My Processor clock: 1,630 MHz
My friends Processor clock: 3,202 MHz

All details about computer specs can be viewed @ above 2 links.
Thanks for reading and I hope someone can tell me why/how.

ram: 12gb
motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. Rampage II Extreme

your processor is at a lower clock. turn off any power saving features, because they seemed to have underclocked your processor automatically.

My Processor clock:1,630 MHz
My friends Processor clock: 3,202 MHz

Looks like your CPU is downclocking or throttling. Disable power saving in bios.

Thanks for the fast replies, ive tried to find power saving programs/options on my computer and disabled all
the reason behind this was because of the electric bill xD i will put it all on high performance and see if that fixxes it and report back with results
I did not manage to find any power saving/turbo enabled @ bios setting though, where to exactly find this?

also, i just installed my gpu today and i noticed i am getting this error: "Nvidia graphics driver has stopped working 2 times" and my screen is abit shakey.

i will try to reinstall the driver, but could it by any means mean i did not install the gpu in my computer correctly?

thx

@GaMbi2004, I just downloaded CPU-Z my muliplier is x 24.0 ( 12 - 25) i will ask my friend to look

ok, so I shut down some power saving functions and did another test:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6650731
gained a +300 score and the processor clock went up from 1,630 mhz to 3,213 mhz my friend got 3,202mhz so does is almost the same.
However.. my improved Physics Score 6671 is still lower then his Physics Score 7137, how? ram? or could it still be some kind of energy saving thing?

or could this be it "check if turbo is enabled in your board's bios."
cuz i failed to find this function in bios.
found it, turbomode was already enabled

Your CPU should perform as good (maybe a tiny bit better) as your friends..
The score is probably from your "lack" of RAM since many benchmark tools uses CPU, GPU an RAM in tests.. you could try running wPrime @ 1024M to see witch CPU will complete the task first..
This will only show CPU vs CPU.

Good luck smile.gif

I pull almost 10K in physics at 4.4Ghz with 2133 memory with my bloomfield setup. Are you two running the same memory? What about core speeds?
