[TH] New Port on Xbox One Controller Makes it Incompatible with Current Gaming Headsets - Page 11

I think I'll buy a PS4. That way it hurts only once.
i have no clue why consoles have ever used an audio besides 3.5 audio out, in what other context is usb audio evef used? i shouldn't have to use a special "gaming headset" to get audio out on these things.

it would be really slick if ps4 controllers came with a 3.5 audio out. i always wanted one on the ps3 controllers, though i hope it delivers decent quality audio and doesn't kill battery life

Yea this is ridiculous. Even my old 3DO had 3.5mm on the controller...

So...Everyone else doesn't even have a port?

The PS3 doesn't have a 2.5mm jack, because they have Bluetooth and USB ports for microphones, headsets, and headphones. Most of the better (and affordable) microphones on market are USB (excluding pricer and better XLR mics) and there are plenty of decent Bluetooth headsets as well. I prefer to pass my headphones to a receiver (built-in amp for better quality sound) not through the PS3's USB. thumb.gif Others user a USB DAC/AMP for their analog headphones/headsets.

So XBOX One trying to force you into buying their overpriced, under-performing microphones/headsets is a slap in the face when there is just so many other better options on the market.

Doubt that will be an issue. There was a post on OCN a bit ago showing the insides of the X1 and the fan in that thing is massive.

Size of the fan has nothing to do with how warm/cold it will run.. the PS3 FAT had a huge fan for the massive heatsink and it wasn't able to keep temps at a tolerable level if your ambient was @ around 80F or higher.

It comes down to how well it can dissipate that heat. The case plays a large part in this, if they can make sure the heat is completely exhausted through the sides or rear then they have a good chance of not failing. The only way of knowing if the unit is going to fail or not is to stress test for several days nonstop (@ high ambients) with a benchmark software, something they didn't do with the last gen.

Fan wasn't the issue, ducted fans with a poor intake coupled with the tinfoil and Chinese newspaper constuction were the main issues. My first one (out of 7) lasted 30 mins.....

As a Xbox One hate thread I think this is only about a 2/10. This isn't anything to care about. Though it is kind of weird. I don't think even Apple has gone so low as to change the audio port have they? It is still 3.5mm on everything right?

Though it would be highly annoying if it was completely proprietary and this headset could not be used for anything. A current XBoxer I know will use his Turtle Beach wireless head set that he got for his 360 for is TV, PC, and phone...it would be nice to be able to use it on other devices.
