The charger on the iphone 5 was not meant to milk it's customers, it was changed because the old charger was obsolete and too big to begin with. The new charger (lightning cable) is way smaller and easier to connect/disconnect compared to the old one. On top of that you can buy a knockoff lightning cable if you want, you are not obligated to buy the apple version.

Everyone who says that everyone is just griping because you "can't use your old headset" and that it was the same from the original xbox to the 360, thats not the real point here, the real point is that with the xbox 360 you could just grab a cheap adapter (most headsets came with them) to use a pc headset with the 360, but with this you won't be able to do that, you won't be able to have a pc headset that is also your 360 headset. It's not about the changing of the controller port, its about how much further they'll push it after this, if you are ok with a weird port maybe you are ok with having to have a certain tv manufacturer to play it or a certain wire of electric to run it (sarcasm if you didnt catch it). The point is that its not about the small things its about the customer is the one being screwed over and our choices being so limited that we are being told what we want and not telling them.

I still believe that nearly everyone that complains about the Lightning connector would love it if it was used for USB instead of the current USB connectors.

I think I can handle replacing some of my gaming peripherals every 6-7 years. In fact other than keyboards, very few of my peripherals last that long anyway.

Comparing the new headset connector to Apple's Lightning cable migration is silly. The 30-pin dock connector had lines for Firewire and S-video; it was a total dinosaur. It had been used for dozens of devices for around a decade. The new connector has many advantages over regular USB.

Vastly different from the Xbox moving to a closed and locked system after a single device, where the primary intent is to shaft the customer.
