WTH is wrong with this i5 2500k - Page 2

It's a shot in the dark, but is the fan plugged in and not set to a low speed or off through a motherboard header?
Also, do NOT run it at those temps for any prolonged period.

i don't i instantly stop it as soon as it hits 90, it's plugged in to cpu_fan1 a 4 pin header, and the fan doesn't sound like it speeds up at all, i used a program called speedfan or something like that it told me the fan is only going 1900rpm but it's honestly the quietest cpu fan i've ever heard.

Ok I will show how the TIM is at fault with it's horrible thermal conductivity.

http://www.overclockers.com/18-way-tim-comparison/

You can see in the link that the shin etsu performs at 20 delta Temp
T-grease 2500 (Thermagon) performs at 27.3 delta Temp

Looking at the specifications we can see that the Shin Etsu thermal conductivity is 6.0 (W/mK).
Looking at the specifications we can see that the T-grease 2500 (Thermagon) is 3.8 W/mK.

So for about 2 W/mK we get a 7 degrees C increase. So in addition to it probably not spreading well on the CPU, that is how you have those higher temps.

Go into the BIOS to change fan speeds, not Speedfan. Speedfan is meant more for laptops that have no direct control over their fan. You should see controls for fan speeds in the BIOS. If that small a fan were running at 1900 rpm, you'd hear it, big time.

Also, I can almost assure you it's not the thermal paste. Provided Nightfallx has applied the paste correctly, it will work just fine. Remember, even toothpaste can be used as thermal paste in a pinch. It's not going to make a 30 degree difference from good paste to bad paste. I know for a fact the best paste I own would only perform maybe 8 degrees better than the worst stuff I've ever used and that's at 4.8-5 ghz. We're talking about stock speeds here, where differences will be less pronounced.

i believe it maybe the thermal compound after messing around with the cooler alittle more i managed to get it alittle better.

it goes to 89-90 and stops so i am pretty sure it's the CRAPPYCONE based compound, i told him to buy artic 5 tomorrow at best buy.

The intel HSF that comes with the 2500k is garbage, I had problems with seating.. I got a new cooler and it didn't over heat and shot my computer off like that crappy Intel HSF worst mounting design ever made!
