[xbitlabs] AMD Will Receive $60 - $100 for Every SoC for Next-Gen Game Consoles - Financial Analysts. - Page 16

How much R&D do you think AMD spent on these chips? They already had Jaguar and GCN and APUs. And how do you even know Sony and MS didn't foot the bill for R&D?

I see a lot of people making the assumption that AMD paid the bill to develop these APUs from scratch and not that they just threw together existing IP and had Sony and MS invest in R&D for the other things AMD didn't have ready.

Depends on how you define the issue from an accounting perspective. Is the R&D cost associated with the chips to be spread over the original chips or these as well?
It's somewhat of a grey area in the law.

It's a good deal for AMD either way though. They're certainly ahead of where they otherwise would've been.

Depends on the definition of "optimized" ;-)

What is also interesting though, is that some upcoming titles for the PC will be utilising Nvidia's technology:

The Witcher 3 - TXAA, HBAO, PhysX (including a "fur" effect)

Splinter Cell Blacklist - TXAA, HBAO

And there are a few other titles as well. One has to wonder?

Wonder what???
Witcher 3 is a 2014 title
We've seen trailers with Blacklist for more then a year now.
Gaming Evolved had only in 2013 games like Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Crisis 3, DMC and Battlefield 4 is next.
