[hdwarriors] ‘Wii U Specs Fit Perfectly Together, GPU Several Generations Ahead of Current Gen’ - Page 2

The next gen will begin when all new consoles are released. Currently there is an Xbox 360 and PS3 on the market, as well as the Wii U, which is more of a crossover, and probably belongs in it's own category all together. The next generation of a product obviously becomes the current generation when it is commonplace on the market, and as such a glimpse of an Xbox One Console and a PS4 controller do not change this.

Wii has already started the new generation of gaming smile.gif
When they start pumping games out for the xbox and PS3 we will see the Wii come into play.
It won't be as good looking or powerful but will still be good.
Just like how the new generation started when the 360 came out, but then the PS3 came out a year later?
It's still the new gen.

But technically you are right although that isn't what the person being interviewed was referring to. The PS4 is currently the most powerful current gen console.

The problem that I see is that they released it way too early. They will never compete with sony or microsoft, nintendo is in its own little world trying to get super casual gamers to play, and with phones and tablets and facebook games, nintendo will never captivate that crowd unless they innovate like they did with the wii.

If the wiiU released 6 months before the X1 and PS4, they MAY have gotten some next gen games ported, however they released early and are almost all ported games from the 360/wii/ps3 gen.

Nintendo needs to either cut the bull**** and launch a console meant to rival sony and microsoft, or continue the risk of trying to innovate, and the wiiU is obviously a failure at that.

Same here. Its obvious by looking at the hardware specs its superior to the PS3 and 360. In terms of raw performance capability.

But why plow money into hardware when the supposedly weak Wii gained over 90 million sales over the PS3's and Xbox 360's approx. 70 million sales?

Yes you're right it has started the next gen, but the news is and market is still dominated by the current gen consoles. And as much as people don't like to face it, the Wii U is not next gen hardware. It is more efficient last gen hardware, but currently it is competing against the current gen consoles, and cannot compete against the Microsoft and Sony offerings tech wise, that is why I think it deserves it's own category. I think most people will consider the next gen to truly start when either the One or PS4 hit the market.

Because Nintendo targeted the console at a demographic sector that didn't care about the hardware.

The WiiU is an approach to broaden that demographic into the daily gamers as well. Graphically wise, remember that Nintendo makes Japanese consoles for Japanese markets, they just sell them overseas as well. They create a console for Japanese devs / closely related studios / themselves to work on, and those aren't so terribly dependant on BLOODY SCREENS or DEM GRASS SHADOWS as our western buddies are.

No the current gen started with the lanch of the X360. The WII U is slightly more powerfull than the PS3 and X360 whooptiedoo 7 years late. The next gen will start this holidays when the Xbox and PS will be released. In terms of hardware performance the WII U will be left behind again. This has been said since the WII U announcement and still is the truth. Of course you can look at various ways to interpretate when the gen begins or not. But at the end of the day 3rd party developers had a small window to port to WII U. From this holdays (like with the current PS and Xbox and the WII) it gets left behind in hardware performance again. So 3rd party developers will leave the Nintendo platform again as well.

When the "next gen" starts, we typically see a boost in games, visuals, and new IPs, followed by tons of hype and fireworks. Wii U brought NONE of that. When the PS4 and XboxOne hit, the Wii U will be in the same category as its predecessor.

Based on that description, it sounds like the PC is the next gen.
