Skipping the ps4 and xbox one, building a pc.

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Recently I decided to upgrade my unwieldy and quite slower than it's prime Macbook Pro. I am usually working or spending time with my girlfriend, however sometimes I like to chill out and play xbox 360, my brother had lent me his console while he was away and he has asked for his console back. I was originally going to wait and buy a ps4 anyway, but now I've decided to build a gaming pc. I love the fact that I can just jump onto steam and download a game, and I love strategy games anyway, which aren't the same on consoles.

I'm looking to spend around anywhere up to $2000 a little more if need be, for the complete build. I was looking at using the bitfenix ghost for this project, what do you guys think? Would like a subtle pc, to slip under or next to the desk. This will be my first gaming pc, I have always customised pc's in the past but never had them at a level of being able to handle recent and awesome games so this will be exciting to have these games ready to go. I am particularly excited about getting back into borderlands, and the witchier.

I would like some build advice please as this will be my first build. I am reading guides and watching videos and I think I have most of the information that I need in order for this to proceed but would like a reccommendation on whether to do certain things like should i run windows 8 and should I wait for Haswell?

Cheers

Couple of things:

Since you mentioned you are building this instead of buying the next gen console I a presuming this rig is solely for gaming.

I have proposed two builds; and AMD CPU and Intel CPU based.
I propose two because right now the intel build will be slightly superior to the AMD build, but in the future with both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 being AMD based I would expect the games to be developed more optimised for AMD CPUs and AMD components are better value for money or "bang for buck"

People may disagree with me here, and this is not fact, just my take on the upcoming events.

Since these are gaming rigs I haven't gone anywhere near your budget as it isn't required.
