2gb Vram will be enough, even in the foreseeable future, for those with single GPU setups.
Those with sli/tri-sli and 1440P and beyond, who actually have enough GPU power to run AA at higher then 1080p resolution - the memory will come in handy and you should look at a card with 3gb+ (7970, 4gb 770, 780, titan etc)
And I guess for those who mod games like Skyrim, Fallout etc the vram may be a issue (I hit 2.6-2.8g in Skyrim @ 1440P) - but these people would fall into a small percentile
For the vasty majority, this card is excellent and priced perfectly
PS all the 7970ghz overclock comments - the majority of 7970ghz on the markets are actually voltage locked these days. Not a problem for older cards but for those trying to make a informed decision before buying something new, I suggest you search '7970ghz voltage locked' on google. There's only a few models that are not locked at the moment.
