Our games are fluid and playable because developers use a lot of approximations and tricks to create relatively realistic looking worlds while achieving acceptable performance. I don't think games will ever need the level of precision and reliability that scientific applications require. Not for the foreseeable future anyway.

Any thoughts on 760ti release next week? Just a 670 rebrand or also high speed memory?

So lastly, if with all of these approximations developers achieve such realism in their game engines (and eventually games), one might wonder what happens if developers would start making engines that tolerate less errors from GPU's then today. (minds would be blown tongue.gif )

on a side note: more accurate GPU's for the mainstream market could also push research by giving more people to contribute more in projects like BIONIC and similar and thus the same amount of people could in theory achieve more. (yes, a bit far fetched but still somewhat true)

I wish I knew, but either way I think I'm buying one. I bet it will only be about 5-8% behind the 770. and for $100 less, it's a better value for me.

Definitely, although the law of diminishing returns would hit hard.

Aren't we in a thread that discusses diminishing returns? rolleyes.gif

(i.e. high end GPU's like the GTX770 don't give as much for the money as a mid range card like the 650 ti boost or the 7850. not to mention the recent Haswell...)
