According to everything I've seen as of late, both will launch this year, the 8000s will be rebranded 7000s for OEMs and the 9000s are supposed to be the Volcanic Islands cards... then again, it's only the 6th of June and there's still plenty of time for the situation to change. At this point if someone in my shoes has the money in hand for the upgrade, the 7970 or 770 is the way I would go, just mho. One can always upgrade around tax time when most of the Volcanic Islands/Maxwell driver issues have been ironed out and polished. Then again, that's easier to say when you're working with a single 1GB 5870, lol.

Yes but the one rumor that mentioned the 9000 series was absolutely shot down and exposed to be predictions from a member of semiaccurate. See here other than multiple sites that posted that same info it hasn't even been mentioned other than future roadmap slides. The latest rumors also are showing the 8970 rather than Volcanic Islands. The only official word we have is that something is coming in 2013. I for one expect VI to be on 20nm and thus not in 2013.

Balls... But then again that could be a positive... it means that VI may hopefully come out around tax season... that way I can wait a few months while the drivers get sorted and then I can have the money sitting there to pick up one or two sometime next summer or fall... Yup, that settles it... It's 7970s in the mean time, lol.

as an ATI guy of 15years, i must say its like waiting for Godot. They (AMD) dont say anything, just let nvidia cannibalize all the sales with 770 and 780 for months. so be it. i buy a 770 4gb and let it be. should be enough to give me 50+avg fps for my 1440p and what more can we want

That's highly likely. Although, I did read that AMD was thinking Q3 release?

To be honest, I'd get much more use out of the GPU if I bought it now. Not have classes after work would be fun. Anyways, I'll think about it.

Could always switch to 1440 and grab a 780 if I'm feeling fun.

Edit. Friend did just pick up the 7950 by my suggestion, and I'm kinda thinking if I upgrade that would be the way to go.
GB 770 OC has 1189mhz and boosts actually to 124x MHz smile.gif and in benchmarks its really great for 1440p
I made a list 7xx series benchmark overview from guru3d tests @1600p and 770WF3 (Boost clock 1189MHz) doesnot look that bad. there are also 780, 780SC and 770SLI in the comparison

the Gigabyte 770OC has like 1189MHz but whether the 4gb also boosts to 1250MHz i dont know. will purchase that card and let you know. but i guess it will be few weeks till we I get it delivered ...

All of the 4gb 770's I can buy in OZ (Gigabyte, Gainward) are all non OC editions. Wonder if there is anything to this

Very interested in seeing what the 770 Classified can do
there should be nonOC edition of GB and then OC @1189MHz
