It will not work.

It will but both cards will be reduced to 2 GB.

Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?

When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. However, while it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer the flexibility to run graphics cards with different sized memory by using CoolBits. Using CoolBits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate them together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using CoolBits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the memory sizes.

i dont care ifi the memory goes down to 2gb while sli'd my current board doesnt even have a second slot.
so i would be putting the 770 in single mode till upgrade to ivy/haswell that is sli capable to put the 2nd card in at that time
i wouldnt mind only being albe to use 2gb (unless 120hz @ 1080p will use more then 2gb anytime soon) but i might just sell the 680 and get a 780 if memory will be an issue for me soon

also wanted to know if i did sli a 770 with a 680 wouold i see the same perf numbers on these charts that have two 770s sli'd or will it be alot less because of the mix n match cards?
