Hi all

My english is not very good so forgive me if there are some mistakes

I built a new rig for games , internet browsing , youtube .
I dont play online fps games
I play football online , fps story mode, some third person shooters like tomb raider ,etc...

I first went to TN monitors but the picture quality were not as good as IPS monitors as I heard, then I went to ips and ordered this monitor
Dell u2312hm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260055

The monitor doesnt arrived yet but I was thinking did I made the right decision ?

What are your opinions guys ?

My rig specs.

Core i7 3770k
Msi mpower z77
Corsair vengeance 16 gb
Hdd 1 tb
Ssd samsung 840 pro 128 gb
Case haf x
Video card I plan to order gtx 780 soooon

Thank you

8ms response time is a bit slow for "gaming" (mine is 1ms) but if you're not playing fast paced shooters you're probably fine. It's a nice screen for everything else.

I think they are great for anything you can do on a pc. Unless you need a 120hrz screen Ips is much nicer to have.

Okay first do not get two worried about IPS vs TN. What I mean is while IPS monitors do have better color the truth is TN does not suck and does the job well for the money. If you have the money then get an IPS monitor, if not then the TN is just fine.

One other question

Is the 8 ms just a number on a paper or its really noticeable ?

My screens are 8ms and are fine for gaming. Some will say not to get them, but I don't see any ghosting. When it gets much higher it will be horrible for gaming, my 4th screen has a 20something ms and is really bad for anything but displaying info.

That Dell IPS monitor should be okay for casual gaming. If you were into competitive shooters, then those 120 Hz TN monitors would be more optimal.

Yes IPS monitors are just fine for casual gaming. I actually play mostly FPS and also own 120 Hz TN panel, yes there is difference with motion blur. However I still like it and more so for everything else I do over TN panel as preference.

The advertised response time is gray to gray, not true latency you see gaming with input lag.
