Code:
1080p = 1920 x 1080
   4k = 3840 x 2160

1080p refers the vertical pixels while 4k refers to the horizontal pixels.

If you were to compare like values, such as the vertical pixels, we are only jumping from 1k to 2k.
Using the horizontal values we are jumping from 2k to 4k.

Not nearly as big of a jump that the presumed 1k to 4k implies.

Although this is the biggest jump in TV resolution so far, it isn't by much.
If you notice you can almost fit 4 of each of the previous resolution in the next one.
All of them are almost except for 4k which actually does fit 1080p x4.

I think we all get this. But the tag 4k is what will be associated with these screens from just about every manufacturer. 1080p has a nice ring, 2160p not so much.

In reality, whatever you technically want to call it, we are all referring to the same thing.

4K is also very convenient to type and say.

Nobody says 1920p, they say 1080p.

4k is 2160p, first one notes the ballpark of width in pixels the second one notes the ballpark of height in pixels. My guess is that 4k just sound more marketing friendly.

4096x2160 & 3840x2160 are both 4K. 3840x2160 is 2160p.
2048x1080 & 1920x1080 are both 2K. 1920x1080 is 1080p.

Those are the only options. 4096x2160 & 3840x2160 can never be called 2K because that isn't how it works. Fight it all you want, but the nK naming nomenclature is here to stay, and honestly makes a ton more sense than vertical lines.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna chillax in front of my 2.5K Scope display.

It's more about digital cinema vs home TV as I explained before. Cinema is accustomed to measuring in width rather than height.

Official price of 3800 USD has been mentioned multiple times in this thread. Please read up before posting such rubbish over and over again, people...

Sorry got confused with the other one they announced. Cheers

Maybe a mod can edit the thread title to include $3800 on the end.

You're not understanding me at all here.
I'll try and make it more simple, to avoid confusion.

When most people see 4k they think it has 4k vertical pixels.
This is because the industry standard right now is 720p and 1080p which refer to vertical pixels.
The logical conclusion is to think "4000p" for 4k.
But 4k does not have ~4,000 vertical pixels. It has close to 2,000 or 2k.

It is unfair to say we are jumping from 1080p to 4k because we are not.
We are jumping from 1080p to 2k, or 1920p to 4k.

That video proves one thing to me. People are dumb animals, most of whom have no ability to regulate need vs. want, nor do they have a care in the world for the safety of others. All they understand is they want to buy that pile of crap 200 dollar 32" LCD on sale at Walmart or an Xbox that is not even cheaper in reality when they can buy it online for the same price or less and not deal with all the other tards on Black Friday. I swear we are regressing as a society. No wonder the Aliens still use anal probes on us. They really feel that is where we keep our brains since most of our activities revolve around sitting on our butts so therefore they think we are trying to protect something precious, and it must be where our brain is located.thumb.gif
