wait for hazwell because while prices from intel might not fall...the value of the 3970x in the market will....

Meaning that when hazwell is released...that guy probably will not be able to get as much for the 3970x in the general marketplace because it is consitered old tech.....Therefore might even be willing to sell it for $650...

This even goes for the 3930k's....

Thanks everyone for the input. I passed on the 3970x offer and i'll wait to see results from haswell before looking into a 3930k

No point at all investing in a 3970x this late in SB-E's lifespan. Either wait to see what Haswell will bring, stick with the 3770k, which is no slouch, or wait for Ivy Bridge-E or Haswell-E. Whichever Intel decides to finally release.

Well given that haswell is not much better than my current 3770k, i bit the bullet and purchased a used 3960x, asus rampage extreme 4 and 32gb gskill (4x8gb) memory for 1k$ hopefully i can OC it close to 4.7ghz for regular use and 5.0 for benching. You guys recommend a good cpu cooler? I have a noctua d14 but i will need the adapter for the 2011 board. What you guys think of the Swiftech h220?

I'm a bit biased towards it even as an owner of a Corsair H100i.

$750 is a good price. but question is if your current computer giving you issues? do you have problems with what you have now.

why i ask this is because Haswell is coming out meaning the "Extreme" stuff will be coming out later this year too. With your current computer, seems like you got the $ in your pocket. Meaning I rather wait for the new "Extreme" stuff instead of going for the older gen, when its coming soon.

This is because what you have now is already quite high end, you aren't coming from a i5 and upgrading.

Actually I did not buy the i7 3970x for 750$ but an i7 3960x for 500$ instead (plus another 500$ for the asus rampage extreme 4 + 32gb ram).
