The one that just shuts down has probably got serious motherboard issues.

never thought bout the disk being the problem or the dvd drive playing up either, cheers for mentioning

the last one is a dead mb only use is spares

as for the 1st im still stumped have you a spare usb stick you could put windows onto to test
use windows 7 usb installer even for vista

also did you try the f2 to f12 buttons to change it when the acer splash screen comes on

I'll try and do that tommorow, gonna put a windows on a usb stick
and so the second one is dead if i don't have a new mb?

but, neither of both the disk drives are reading any disc ..? tried updating, but the latest drivers were already installed ..

Thats a problem with the drivers
Uninstall the drivers and delete them and reinstall
Is it reading disks in windows cos if it is then that be the issue cos im assuming it a dvd drive

Did that already, but didnt work, when i insert a disc, its spinning, but doesnt show up..
