[ET] Researchers Finally Crack Realistic Hair. (VIDEO) - Page 5

The hair is structured very well, but the way it reflects light could still use some work.

human hair demo from nvidia looks way better imo

too much bouncy hair, it doesn't behave like that mad.gif But i guess that could be tweaked in the software thumb.gif Nice job for the strands by the way biggrin.gif

seems like the weight on the strands dosnt scale up as the length increases, causes the middle of them to react identical to the ends... just needs some adjustments

Not quite there yet. I don't know if an uncanny valley exists for hair, but if it does that is where the hair in this video live.

i7 3770k is about 100Gigaflops while current GPU's alot faster.

Well provided the code scales really well when threaded, I agree that it's possible to get a higher amount of flops on a GPU. But we are talking 4000 times here, so unless we are in imaginary hardware wonderland, this is not happening. But I'm sure Amazon will rent you some GPU compute based super computer time, it will only be a few $100 an hour, but hey, the hair will look amazing biggrin.gif

Nah, I'm pretty sure these researcher guys would make it very clear in their paper if this technology was usable for realtime simulation, but if you are an expert on parallel execution and you feel you know how to make it work realtime, I'm sure they have a really well paid job waiting for you smile.gif

Crikey things are excelling in the graphics world - next it will be dandruff added to make it more realistic biggrin.gif

Lol, I know you're joking but this is actually a really interesting conundrum. nerdsmiley.png

How realistic can we make these things and how realistic do we want to make these things? With the rise of VR everything will become a lot more impact-full. Cymatic Bruce (YouTube famous for demo'ing all sorts of games for the Oculus Rift) told me he actually doesn't like getting in NPC's faces, but maintains his distance just like he would with any real person, and this was in the re-released Doom III, not the best looking game. Real hair will most definitely take things to the next level when added to models of the quality that some Skyrim mods have... drool.gif

I'm just afraid of more government interference like in Germany and Australia where some games are banned... I'm not very politically involved but the government should keep out of my house and let me do whatever I want as long as it doesn't bother others. mad.gif

But I'll keep on being positive as I live in a very free country (even though they actually made ISP's (try to) block the pirate bay). thumb.gif

EDIT: Just to make it clear, I'm talking about the violence in video games getting more realistic with the rise of VR and realistic looking humans. Games like The Walking Dead, where you have to choose between people with whom you really build an emotional connection will probably be traumatizing to some people.
