Will 6790s Crossfire on a a75ma-g55?

Thread Starter
I just got a MSI A75MA-G55 FM1 board. I have a A6-3670k that will run 3.3Ghz stable or a athlon 631 that will also run 3.3 (though i don't know how stable). I also have a HIS 6790 and was wondering if getting a second one and crossfiring would be bottlenecked by the CPU or by the 4x lane. As far as I know it doesn't switch to 8x/8x but I don't know for sure yet.

Does anyone know if 2 6790s would be too much for FM1, or more importantly the bandwith of this particular board? I run at 1080 res and the single 6790 just can't max out games (though they are still looking pretty good on medium settings or without AA)

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

extreme overkill.... no APU can handle a HD 6970 cfx since they performs like a i3

these would be 6790s not 6970s. As far as I can tell one 6790 works fine, but wasnt sure about 2 or about the fact one of the PCIe lanes is a 4x.
I realize that there is no way xfire 6970s would work. I'd probably bottleneck just one wink.gif

You'll be fine! :)

ere are some benches from a mobile A10 with a 7970 mobile (almost as strong as a GTX 580); there arent any major bottleneck except in CPU intensive games, but you can expect better performance since you're using a desktop chip.

And no worry about the PCI lane being 4x; there is no way you'll saturate it with a 6790.

thanks smile.gif I'll give it a try then. I'd really like to get things close to maxed out and 2x6790s should get most games that are cpu intensive maxed

And pontiac I don't blame the misread i do it all the time with these cards. The 6790s werent as good or popular as the 6970s smile.gif
