If the solder isn't compatible then what do you want them to do?

I want them to not cover the die with an IHS, instead use some kind of spacer to make sure people don't chip the corners of the die when mounting their cooler.

That's not going to happen.

The other thing the IHS does is prevents the CPU from burning out if someone forgets to put the heat sink on (or puts it on incorrectly so it doesn't touch properly).

If there's a bare die it can probably overheat and kill itself before it can shut itself off.

Not compatible, why? It's not like they've gone away with other materials. Silicon is still silicon.

I can now see Intel saving the solder for their enthusiast range and tim for their more "mid-range" offerings from here on in.

Not even sure if I should go with Haswell atm (from Arrandale laptop).

I just watched TTL's review of the Intel 4770K wow the power levels on it are just insane the only thing that seems to be stuffing it is the temps frown.gif I could really see people getting 5GHz devil.gif on these with delidding easily if you could keep the temps under control with maybe full watercooling loops?

Just my 2cents.gif tho smile.gif
