Asus Sabertooth 990FX/Gen3 R2 or Crosshair V Formula-Z

Thread Starter
I am looking at upgrading the motherboard in my gaming rig so that later on I can add another GTX 670 FTW in SLI. Both cards support SLI and as far as I can tell they will support my FX-8150 CPU. (If im wrong let me know)

What I would really like to know is if there is a big difference between the two boards, besides the Sabertooth having PCIe 3.0 slots.
Would one be better for gaming than the other?

Good for gaming in what respect? In terms of just gaming they are both a little overkill.

Both are good overclockers. The CHV has a few more bells and whistles in that respect, better nic, sound and can support higher memory speeds (theoretically). I say theoretically because that also depends a lot on your individual CPU.

Eithers good.

This mainboard need a new update to support the new GTX 7xx or the next HD 8xxx ?
And this model will be compatible with Steamroller ?

I know the Steamroller based APU is going to a new socket and not backwards compatible with FM2 (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20130530232155_AMD_s_Next_Gen_Kaveri_APUs_Will_Require_New_Mainboards.html?utm_source=feedly)

Maybe the same will happen with the mainstream desktop CPU as well. I actually hope so. While I love AMDs longer use of the socket and chipsets (AM3/AM3+ and 890/990FX) have been aaround a long time and are past due for an update.
