Should I upgrade from my 680 to a 780....

Thread Starter
I have owned my 680 for a year now roughly and with the new launch for the 780, I am asking myself if I should or shouldnt upgrade, I've seen frame comparisons on a 2560x1600 resolution and I was impressed with the increase of FPS.

Just want to know what peoples opinion is, I dont SLI either.

It's up to you. If you're not satisfied with your current gameplay experience, then that is reason for upgrade. If you are then wait until the 800 series. New architecture and you'll see bigger gains going 600->800. Right now the resale market is being flooded with 680s. It's a buyers market. I would sit tight and wait for the 880.

What do you mainly do? Gaming? What games and how many monitors?

Is it worth it overall?
No, not at all.
Is it worth it for 1920x1080p or below?
No, performance is overkill for the gt 680 already.
Is it worth it for 2560x1440/1600p ?
Maybe, if you have the money yes, but if $650 is worth a lot to you then it really isnt, as a sound card, network card, etc are worth it more than a few fps.
Is it worth it for 5760x1080p ?
Yes it is the 3gb of vram and the increase of performance is enough to take a game from a unusable (30 fps) state to a better experience (about 45 fps or more )
So over all a gtx 780 isn't worth it until 2gb isn't enough in games and if/or you are playing in surround.

With your 1,000W power supply I was going to say get another 680, though you rather not SLI, so a single 780 isn't worth it even at your resolution. Wait till the 8000 series from AMD, maybe prices on the 780 will lower, maybe not.

I wouldn't bother with going from 680 to 780. I would wait to get the 800 series to make it more worth your while.

You guys are awesome! just stopped me from purchasing the 780, I think I will wait for the 800 series, 1 more year then I will upgrade for sure! for now, might just focus on upgrading my motherboard in the near future! to a z77. Thank you all for your input!

No its not worth it! GTX 780 is for the people who have 580.. upgrading from 580 to 780 its worth it, but from 680 to 780 its not worth it, if you want an upgrade save up money for gtx titan wink.gif
