Overclocking a Powercolor 7970

Hi, I'm trying to overclock my brand new Powercolor 7970 and I cant seem to have a stable overclock.

I'm using MSI Afterburner, Stock core voltage with the power limit increased to 20% and I thought I achieved a stable overclock at 1125/1500 because I ran MSI kombustor for a few hours without any artifacts but then when I played Borderlands 2 just a few minutes ago I started seeing some artifacts and reset to stock speed ...

Would you guys have any advice on how to get a stable overclock ? and whats the average overclock people get without any voltage increase ? because I'm in a Bitfenix prodigy and even though the airflow is great (1x230mm front, 1x140mm back, H100i push/pull on top) its still a very small case and my temps might be pretty high (although i set me fan so that my temps never go above 70C

Please help me and thanks in advance smile.gif

If it crash on the game it wasnt stable at all..

Up the voltage a notch till it gets stable (watch temps) or lower the clocks if you want stock voltage..

The anomalies appear on stock?

op, temps on both core and vrms don't go above 70 or just core?

What is the stock voltage. 1125 is pushing it on stock volts, IMO. Back in down to 1100 or 1080 and test.

Stock voltage is 1.175

My temps at 1100/1500 are 55C for gpu and vrm but it still doesnt seem to be stable. I can run furmark for super long but in game my gpu crashes... Is there anything (stability test) i can do to make sure its stable ?

Its not stable, as zGunBladeZ said. Furmark and all that are wastes of time now. Your card is probably throttling for one, and two.. furmark stable =/= truly stable [aka GAME stable]

I can run bitcoin miners at 1.037v & 1200MHz on the core. It takes 1.138v for it to work in game at that same speed. There is nothing wrong with the games, its just not stable at 1.037v, plain and simple.

Increase voltages or otherwise enjoy 1100MHz.
