SAS 12Gbps is 1536MB/s with a latency of 40-1000ns.
DDR3-1600 is 12800MB/s with a latency of 5-30ns.

Is it 12.8GB/s per 64 bit channel? I can never remember how to calculate memory bandwidth.

How so? SATA Express is already scheduled to hit 16Gbps (it basically is 2x PCIe 3.0 lanes).

With PCIe 4.0 in a a few years, SATA Express will hit 32Gbps or 3940MB/s effective! Current storage technology won't keep up.

Yes there is impressive bandwidth, but connecting single devices will not scale very well. Not many go that fast smile.gif A more scalable architecture is needed. How would you hook up a few hundred drives?

A RAID controller between the PCIe to the CPU, and the smaller PCIe links to the drives?

SATA Express will support HBA and port multipliers.... so how is it not scalable? They are aiming this technology at enterprise markets.
