After reading some of the comments here, I usually don't like games that a lot of people have problems with. Not because I can't think for myself, just because I want an open world sandbox game with 1000's of weapons/armour/clothes, action orientated combat taking elements from Mount & Blade, Dark Messiah Might and Magic, physical based crafting, not this menu rubbish, or the look at this repeat animation while my count of iron ore go up... Something like minecraft, totally customisable armour, individual sections that provide the obvious bonuses, such as having light armour with a few light plated sections round the vulnerable areas... And proper hit detection with swords, bows... Proper damage to the body, guts, muscles... We have the technology, but it is too much of a big job to pull off something like what I'm dreaming of in my head... An entire world, no NPC's, no kids just making ridiculous characters, adding value to their characters life... Permanent death, but it is actually fun to start a new life, you don't need to spend years to make an iron sword... You can find someone already alive that is making them for their tribe, whatever... Not just idiots stuck in a game world getting bored plaguing on other people cause they know they'll win. No advantages or disadvantages, if you go into battle naked, if you're good enough, will still prevail, just like the Vikings vs the British in 700ad, the Brits had the technological advancements, the better weapons/fortifications.... But the Vikings were fearless and knew how to fight. I want that... I want to experience something totally jaw dropping everytime I log into the game. I don't want mechanics where you're stuck doing repetitive things.. You should be able to even change your fighting style down to the most minute of details, I'm fed up of repeat animations... Especially when we have such powerful machines now. People say "oh we can't fully utilise the technology of today"... Yeah so we keep on pushing it forwards and releasing new cards, so all those older drivers were almost pointless.... All those people working on getting everything to work together with the new advancements... What is the point when by the time they even get 10% through creating a stable environment... They'll have to do it all over again!
Absolute madness. I hate the way the world works, everything is driven by money and greed for it. I for one don't care. I just want to be happy, games have made me very happy over the years as they remove me from all of the imbeciles that live everywhere, and I can't even play games anymore, I just see through them, mechanics are the only thing at the end of the day that matter in a games lifespan, if they aren't varied people will move on. Why not just consolidate all the mechanics ever created and make something truly realistic, where you could never ever get bored... The only game that has managed to really hit the spot with mechanics is Mount & Blade, but the animations suck. How they haven't redone them is beyond me, it isn't that hard to make them look smoother and more natural. Anyway I could go on and on. Lets face it, I'll never be satisfied, I've come too far into gaming now, I've seen it all, nothing is new anymore. I thought Arma 3 was incredible at first, but it is just a massive let down, why not just put the new mechanics into Arma 2? That is what everyone wants... And gun attachments, clothing, a real reason to actually camp out in DayZ, protecting your friends without the clunky rubbish that is DayZ, the exchange of bullets in that game is so utterly horrendous that firefights turn into a casual endeavour, rather than a hardcore "run for cover" one.
Still don't get some developers ideas... Xbox One looks dreadful. People will buy it... Because it is Xbox... And that in itself annoys me. Same with apple and their overpriced garbage. I don't understand....
After reading this and your other posts, I get what you mean, but the games they put out ARE fun. I'm and older gamer. Been playing since Atari 2600/colecovision/commodore 64, etc, and I've see what you mean about games losing their appeal.
But you may be looking to hard. Or you may need a challenge. I would suggest you play LOL, but with the LOL community that loves to yell at non-pro players for not playing at a superb level, that may not be the game for you. The game is what you are looking for. Want to change your style or how you play or different mechanics, just choose a different champion each game. The core mechanics are the same, farming, ganking, lane control, but each game is very very different.
But something else you may want to try is changing the difficulty. Most of my friends just play games on normal, but I found that once you get the basics of the game (usually the first 30-60 minutes) the game get's easier because the enemy isn't getting smarter while you are. UIt's like when WOW players you to use only blue gear, maybe you need to add your own challenge to enjoy games.
Lastly, maybe you need to leave gaming behind for a while. I have a bunch of games that I haven't played, cuz LOL and MTGO took over for a bit, but I just played through MW3, which was okay. I knew what was coming, but now I'm playing Alan Wake, and SC2 and LOL (yes it won't play itself) and I just installed Kingdoms of Amalur. So I will play a FPS, then move to a action/adventure or startegy and into a RPG just so I don't get tired of any one type of game. But Rox, what ever you choose man, good luck.
And as for my games:
Witche r2 - The controls seemed "wonky" and I just couldn't get into the game
Crysis 2 - 1 was great, 2 was just boring from the start
Final Fantasy X - This one was sooo different from FFVII
And for those of you who couldn't get into Bioshock, oh man you are missing out. I won't give anything away, but I can say that during a pivotal point in the game, I shot up from my chair, threw my headphones, and was soooooooooo pissed at what was happening int he game. One of my most memorable gaming moments of all time.
