Games you just couldn't be bothered to finish that other people raved about... - Page 112

This is an old one but Final Fantasy X and any Final Fantasy made after it.

I grew up with the classic FF on 16-bit systems and hated the character design and bad gameplay of the later titles.

Dead Island because it was really boring.
Far Cry 3 because the story line wasn't that great.
GRID because I just didn't like it. I've played a lot of racing games and I just didn't like this one.
Just Cause 2 because I just couldn't get into it.
Mass Effect 2 because I just couldn't get into it.

Skyrim: I actually loved Oblivion; beat the game on the Xbox 360 and got all the achievements. Was excited for Skyrim, I played it and about 2 hours in or so, I just stopped playing...I've tried to get back into it when the Game of the Year edition was released and probably made it 3 hours in this time. My thing is probably time, such an engrossing game that with work and school, I feel like the time I do have to play the game I can't really sit down and enjoy it...I'll probably play for like 30 minutes one day, and like 20 minutes another day...lol I may give it one last shot on PC though with mods...I have more free time now

GTA V: Same reason as above pretty much, this one was one of the only games I was looking forward for along side The Last of Us for 2013. Got it on midnight and played it as much as possible; made it probably 75% in and than the online was released and all my buddies and I tried to get on but it was so broken; I never got passed the tutorial and just stopped trying to play it all together. If this ever gets released on PC, I'll probably definitely pick it up and play it again...

The Last of Us: This game was drop dead amazing when I popped it in, and I stopped like 4 hours in...I think I stopped playing when my friends all persuaded me back on League and I kind of never went back to the game. Maybe with Playstation Now in the future, I'd give it a try with streaming...

For me it was Batman: Arkham City.

I love asylum and was really looking forwards to playing City. I found it so boring. It was the same thing all over again, just a bigger map and more enemies in the fight scenes - yawn. I think I played it a total of about 3hrs.

San Andreas is definitely the best GTA for me. GTA4 was good, but not as good. And BoGT was pretty weak.

Hmm, FF12 is my favorite. But I'm in a minority, I know. I just found it refreshing that we didn't have any teenage angst and/or love stories, it was a very adult story. Plus it mixed the best elements of single & multiplayer RPGs.

That's what the reviews say about Origins, more of the same. I'll play it eventually anyway, when a Steam sale has it for $10-ish.

But I thought City was better than Asylum, the open world was great if you got into it. You have to want to explore, find the riddler trophies, etc. I've gone back and played a couple hours of Asylum (which I loved) after finishing City, and now it just feels...cramped. Like I'm being led from point A to B to much.

I played about 10 hours and I'll admit, the story was good, none of the teenage amnesiac stuff. The story was done by the same team that did FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre so it's all political intrigue type stuff. I didn't care for the gameplay and how gambits basically allow you to automate your entire party... I mean seriously, the game plays itself. You can even take advantage of this to power level by simply leaving the system on and walking away while your team fights constantly respawning monsters. Come back 12 hours later and you'll be at a very high level. Yeah...

My favorite FF is FF4, the original Super Famicom hardtype with the translation patch.

If you liked 12 I highly recommend you check out Rogue Galaxy for PS2. It has a very similar gameplay style and even a complete rip off of the license board. The gameplay is more involving because you actually have to hit buttons to attack. The story is kind of a rip off of Star Wars but it's really well done. There's even a weapon synthesis system where you feed two weapons to a frog and he eats them and spits out a stronger weapon. This one comes highly recommended, I think next to Xenoblade and Dragon Quest IX it's probably one of the best jRPGs of the last ten years.

12 is one of those games that I need to go back to and actually play through and give it more of a chance. The problem is that there's a huge amount of other good RPGs for other systems that are more worth my time. I must have 8 rpgs on PSP alone to play, let alone on my collection of older consoles.

I've heard that a lot, but I liked gambits myself. It wasn't traditional FF combat, which I also liked of course. But I don't think I *need* to be in control of every character, as long as they aren't doing stupid AI things...which AI characters always do. They have the same thing in Dragon Age but call them "tactics", but it's a much deeper system and I rely on it a hella lot. (Playing Dragon Age II on Xbox now...much harder to micromanage a party in DA2 compared to DA:Origins, especially since I jumped from PC to Xbox.)

That trick you mentioned falls under "unethical gaming" in my book, if not outright cheating. If you're not going to play the game, why play the game? (Although I must confess to some automation back in my Ultima Online days...I was young, and smelting ingots into ore was time consuming and booooring...)

Got to the last level of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and just haven't picked it up since. Strange because I was definitely hooked on the gameplay for a while. I just don't have the urge to play it anymore.

Yeah, I've played both DA Origins and DA2 and finished them both. The tactics are definitely similar and more complex then gambits. You have to use them to be successful, especially on harder difficulties. DA2 though... man that game sucked. Going through the same recycled maps over and over was a bore. Even the DLC expansion for Origins was way better and more original. Here's hoping they don't screw up DA3 like they did 2.

The trick probably is unethical, but being that I have no reservations about exploiting a game, it doesn't really bother me. I'm one of those people of the mindset that if exploiting or even cheating (Gameshark etc) increases my enjoyment of the game, then I'm going to do it. It's just a game anyway. If it doesn't entertain me it's no good to me. I'd never cheat in an online game, but I sure as hell have in single player games.

Hope you give Rogue Galaxy a shot sometime, it really is excellent, even if it is a blatant rip off of FF12 and Star Wars.
