My comparison is not to previous Thief games, original titles almost always win. If I were to compare it to OG thief it would be horrible. That's why it's much easier to compare it to Dishonored... You can definitely slash you way through any difficulty of dishonored, iv'e done it. The parry system is incredibly predictable.
Not sure how you could trim down dishonored any more than it already is, besides porting it to tablets, which I think they did...
It's interesting watching how things are received, & compared to older titles which were also burned @ the cross. the only thing Dishonored did semi-well was story telling.
AI kills you more easily in Thief, yeah. This isn't fully related to its intelligence however. Dishonored's sandbox is no illusion, there's a big difference between sandbox and open world and many people seem to be unaware of it. Its level design is even more open than the classic Thief games and the levels are way more detailed as well, on top of good storytelling and even more gameplay versatility/depth. It's the only stealth game to show real improvements over the classic Thief games, and is the new gold standard in my opinion. It's interesting to see how nostalgia colors the mind of people. If anything, Arkane should make the next one.
It's quite obvious to see how much more trimmed down the new Thief is: the level design, in both its openness and its detail. Also the length, story depth, more generic art design, gameplay mechanics becoming contextualized console nonsense, just about every aspect really. It's clear how the new Thief is targeted at modern day casual console gamers, while Dishonored appeals more to PC gamers who liked the classic Thief games and enjoy a more open game that gives you options. I find myself unable to finish console games, they're oversimplified to the point where it's insulting.
Thief isn't really applicable for this thread however, it's not raved about. Mediocre reviews all around.Edited by boredgunner - 3/1/14 at 12:05pm
