So... Not sure what I'm asking exactly...

Well I guess I have some thoughts roaming around in my mind and I don't know audio stuff well enough to know maybe how to put all the ducks in a row so help me out.

In my setup I have a xfi fatality pro gamer card, it seems to do the job just great. It's plugged into my Logitech Z5300 5.1 speaker system. I think it's the 5300, regardless. It goes Soundcard > Sub/Plugin thing > The volume controller/ headphone plugin > Headphones.

So I am curious if I am losing out on audio quality by plugging my headphones into this thing vs. directly into my soundcard. Or would the speaker system be giving it a boost since its powered?

I have not compared with onboard sound as I do not want to have potential driver conflicts.

So then I wonder, because this card gives me what I consider quite excellent quality if in fact since it's going through a bunch of things if I would even notice a difference between this and the onboard. What are your folks thoughts.

headphones plug into one of these things https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSvnWBvP4xNksYpTkiTeRnxlz_CYvtKYk0J8jTB_Feon-mPNdLMuw

Plugging it straight into the card is the best. Honestly though, I doubt your headphones would react much between the speakers and the card. You probably won't hear a big enough difference to waste your effort.
