i7-930 Overclocked to 3.8Ghz (Need advice/input)

Thread Starter
My setup.
Gigabyte X58-USB3
Silicon 4x2GB x Power @ 1066Mhz
i7-930 @ 2.8Ghz
Thermaltake Frio OCK

I mainly use my PC for games/music/surfing/office work mainly. I just want to overclock my CPU at the moment because I honestly don't have the money to purchase a new MOBO/CPU/RAM at the moment and also learn about overclocking smile.gif

With Hyper Threading on:
Realtemp shows my idle at 47-50C.
Temps on max load on IntelBurntest (Should I get different testing softwares?) are about 77-80C - Need to know if these are quite high or not? First time overclocking so a little paranoid to be honest.

With Hyper Threading off:
Havn't tried with hyperthreading off yet. Is it really worth switching hyperthreading on? Cause most of the games I play don't fully use the hyperthreading function.

I would just like to know if these voltage/settings are ok before I commit to a 24hr test and possibly ruin something, if I need to raise or drop something.

Currently I'm running a 20 loop test with Interburntest with performance at Maximum (7000GB RAM used)

My bios as follows:

My max temperature with Realtemp is about 82C at the moment. My frio OCK is set to run fan at max manually. Any advice changes I should make before running a proper 12 hour Intelburntest?

-Raven.

But that's for the Asus motherboards right? I have a Gigabyte usb3 MOBO? Won't the settings be a little different? I just needed input on my voltages/Ram speed etc. so I know I won't really ruin anything before I start proper testing smile.gif

Bloomfield is good till 100C so relax on the temps and ENABLE HT!!!

My voltages for 4.4Ghz

1.375v Vcore
PLL - Auto - Usually at 1.81v
QPI/VTT - 1..475 - I run 2133 Memory. You can leave it on auto for 1066
IOH - 1.35v
ICH - 1.35v

For the memory enable XMP and make sure you have good airflow over the NB. It gets very warm. Also use the 21X Multi

I'll enable XMP once this test is done with. Thanks for pointing out QPI/VTT change and I should be running IOH at my settings and ICH at auto as I'm only OCing to 3.8Ghz? And I'll try with 21x multi and lower bclk.

Changed my clock speed to 21x but for some reason it automatically jumps to 22x when I go into OS putting my CPU @ 3.99Ghz :/ So I reverted back to 19x200 and running Prime95. Temperatures are a little better now that I put QPI to Auto.

Anything else I need to tweak?

Why don't you want to go above 3.8ghz?
