You should test the nvidias force-enable-gen3

The difference on 1080p is negligible for me. I just got the GTX 780 and it was originally on 2.0 on my X79 board with 3820 cpu. When I installed the patch GPU-Z reported 3.0, but after running benchmarks sometimes there was no difference and at most maybe 1%. Mind you, this is at 1080p, I'm not sure about other resolutions.
