Asus HD 7970 DirectCu 2 Top on 550watt psu? - Page 2

Well at this stage, I don't think that I would be doing some serious cf and sli in the near future or at all, but I figured why not get a psu that would provide me with some headroom just in case. Saying that I might go for the FSP Aurum 750w then, trusting that it will last for about as long as my trusty old Antec has lol.
When you say the FSP is one of the worst performing high current power supplies, you mean worst performing in the golden efficiency area, thus a lot better than a bronze efficiency standard psu?

FSP is headquartered in Taiwan and has offices in Germany, U.K., USA, France, Russia, Japan, India, Korea and China.

I have seen many users spell FSP as FPS i think they need to stop playing Counter Strike

Thanks for that smile.gif and I actually spelled FSP as FPS just before haha. I hope i managed to edit it before anyone saw tongue.gif

Right, I mean that it is worse than most 80 plus gold or platinum units on the market.

Efficiency has little to do with quality, meaning there's not much of a causal relationship. It's just that most high-end designs strive for high performance, high reliability, and high efficiency because that's what the market wants or expects. Or actually, if you look at the engineering design, there are tradeoffs between efficiency and performance (so negatively related even).

Base FSP Aurum is just kind of a cost-cutting design that can reach 80 plus gold efficiency levels for less money than most. There are some definitely questionable power supplies at 80 plus or 80 plus bronze that are pretty cheap, seem to have poor voltage regulation, maybe bad ripple control. But there are also some high-end and mid-high designs that only reach 80 plus bronze or silver that are superior to FSP Aurum and even Aurum Modular. I think Aurum Modular has better capacitors than normal Aurum, and IIRC they also fixed the fan control from the early Aurum models.

The worst 80 plus gold PSU´s i can think of are the Raidmax AE series those belong more in a dumspter then in a PC

Made by Andyson and they even has a 1200 watts AH series on the way

Interesting, learn something everyday tongue.gif

Well, I guess I will pick up the 750w FSP then as it should be more than enough to power my HD 7970 DC2T overclocked.
I just really hope that it will last me at least 3 years. I know that every unit differs, but just in general i hope that the unit is capable of doing so.

Defs not getting one of those then lol, dont even know why such bad quality products are made, I understand a little bit of cost cutting to reach standards but not so much to reduce overall quality of a product to be dumpster worthy...

Many think the 80 plus efficiency bage on the box means its high quality when it is fact more of a marketing hype

As i said the Raidmax AE series despite being 80 plus gold are horrible and sould be avoided like the plague

In fact all Raixmax units are horrible and i dont know why Andyson wants to have their name or anything to do with the crap that Raidmax is
