Interesting, Ivy is running @ 3.5Ghz and Bloomfield @ 4.2Ghz, mostly the performance is the same, yet where a game is significantly faster on one CPU than the other, its always Bloomfield.

So the IPC on Bloomfield may be in some rough way similar to Ivy Bridge, it just doesn't clock anywhere near as high.

That is very interesting.

I got same experience with the i5 2500k@stock in BF3, I gained 15+ fps when I OC it to 4,5GHz. You do need quite fast cpu with the overclocked 7950...

I got 34 FPS on Valley Benchmark at Extreme HD when I rolled the 7950 back to stock clocks. Does that sound about right?

What clock speed are you at? That sounds low

i read somewhere a while ago that ram speeds to improve overall game FPS. If you can find some cheap faster ram, that might help. But as your mobo isnt of any good quality and that chipset is dead anyway, I'd say its time for an upgrade. Look at for some good deals you my find on ivy when haswell arrives.

i got 37 at 900/1250 (stock) with the i7 SB at 4.5GHz. so, your gpu is a tad low but 3fps more in Valley is really hard to achieve based on my experience with the program. at 1255/1700 and the SB at 5 . . . i got 51.2.

just pick up a used x58 board, overclock, and be happy........my i7 940@4.0Ghz (200x20x1.4v) only began bottle necking AFTER I added a third 480......SLI was fine, with both gups staying @99% in most of the games with vsync off, and about 60% to 99% depending on game(BF3 was 99%, Far Cry 3 was 75%, Just Cause 2 @60) with vsync on.....when I added a third card, that's when I noticed overall gpu usage went down to about 85%ish.....and this is @1920x1080, and @6040x1080 it was down to 70%ish......cpu couldn't keep up anymore......bought a 970, and because I'm now able to hit 4.8/HT off, gpu usage is 99% with vsync off even @6040x1080.......strange thing is that I get better performance overall in games with 4.8/HT off than I do with 4.6/HT on

ram speed dose not make a diffence on x58. 1333 or 2200mhz dont matter he just needs a newer non dell mobo they are ez to replace if you can pick them up cheap.

I know for a fact that my i7 930@4.4Ghz bottlnecks my single GTX 480 in Crysis benchmark if i use a low resolution and leave Vsync off, GPU usage will not make it too 100%
Be more precise with information you give us and you will get a more accurate answer wink.gif
with those settings your gpu is not being used because it doesnt need the full gpu to run it. there is no cpu bottle neck.

when i had my 920 at 3.8 ghz or above my sli 480's (core 890, mem 2240) were always at 99% playing crysis 3, 2 or bf3. there was no cpu bottle neck
