The price? You were denying the existence of the CPU or rather the TDP/frequency not the CPU not the price.

Would it really be a wise move to release a chip that will insta-fry most budget AM3+ motherboards?

why would it fry it? It achieves a big over clock at a safe voltage

Well, you would think that someone who is shelling-out more than 500 dollars on a cpu would have enough PC knowledge to not go the budget MB and PSU route.

You would hope....

How do you know what voltage it runs at??

The reason it would massacre most 4+1 boards is the TDP. People who overclock FX-8xxx chips on small power phase boards tend to have many more RMAs than people with 8+2 and up.

If AMD has a brain in their head, they would be smart and limit these CPUs to only the creme de la creme boards like the 990FX-UD7 etc.through bios updates.

The rumored TDP of 220W does not correspond to a safe draw for the budget AM3+ boards. It sounds more like 5GHz @1.55v by my reckoning, which you are of course correct is a safe voltage for the CPU, but not a safe load for a poor old Asrock Pro3 or something like that.

I like reading comments of people freaking out and getting riled up. The chip will come out, it will probably not be overpriced (it's AMD people) and AMD have not released any official specs or pricing. Calm down.

Nobody and certainly not AMD, forces a motherboard manufacturer to release new BIOS that adds support to such a CPU... If they do, it's their own responsibility...

Of course, MSI may support it, with a fine print of "don't run the CPU at 100%" and then we 'll have tons of fun in this fourm with photos of burnt houses! rolleyes.gif

Ah I know I wasn't being overly serious tongue.gif, because I don't really believe the rumoured 220W figure being banded about, because it looks like somebody just calculated the TDP off a 5GHz FX8350 overclock @1.55V.

If it is a real product, I would expect it is a reasonably signifigant refresh, that will come in substantially under 220W,

I personally think its a false report. I think they are coming out with something though.

If it were an FX 9000 it would be 9 cores. I do believe that Gigabyte let the cat out of the bag though with a 5.0 Ghz FX series.
