having multiple purposes is a positive anyway. Doesn't take away from being capable to do a certain task like gaming.

I keep on putting off my plans on making an htpc, but with the direction these consoles are going, I'll be able to remove clutter by having a single device able to do multiple things that I would've likely done with multiple devices.

why not wait until after E3? Apparently MS is investing 1 billion dollars in GAMES. Should be interesting to see how that trickles down to those that are looking forward to the console.

Exactly, it's not we say "oh a PC can do so many things, therefore it's not great at any one thing"

The survey may be before the reveal, but this is something I think will hold true if it was redone.

The cynical would say they're more likely investing 1 billion in marketing their games than in the studios producing them.

Speculation, stupid articles and rumors will get worse as E3 gets closer and closer, can't wait till is all over.

Hey now, I've been using one of my PS3s almost exclusively for Bluray/Streaming from my media server for over 4 years now. The other one just got dusted off because I wanted to play FFVIII again.

As a media platform, the PS3 was great. Cheaper than Bluray players when they first came out, streaming capability and unlike most early Bluray players had a net connection to update firmware, and hey, why not play games too. The 360 was also capable of all that, just that it lacked HDMI for a while (I have no idea why... bad move) and the lack of Bluray meant a lot when Bluray won the format war.

It makes sense that so few PS3 people are interested in the XBone. It offers no new media capability that they haven't already had for years anyway, and if they're Playstation now, it's likely because of exclusives that they will want to stick to the PS4 for. Xbox owners who do use their 360 for media will welcome the One, because it gives them Bluray among other things (See the "will you buy next gen" charts), while still getting their exclusives of choice. There is little need for them to go PS4 to get what they want, but fear for the rumors floating around (used DRM, AlwaysOnline, must use kinect, new headset port, etc) may have them considering. At least at the time of the survey anyway.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Very little on the image surprised me.

This wasn't an insult! It's saying that 91% of those surveyed used their consoles for more than just gaming! That's a good thing. Those that say that consoles should ONLY be for gaming accounts for only 9%....luckily the consoles don't cater to those.

Agreed. I could afford a HTPC, or Console, for that duty. Not both.

Since I have a PC for PC games, the choice is fairly clear there.

Wait...

So they did this survey before the reveal, and had under 1200 respondents. Yet feel comfortable publishing it and tying it to the new consoles coming out?

Right........

Well, I pretty much know what website to completely ignore.
