[AMD] AMD Teases A Mysterious Picture - Page 11

hell, even 30% extra IPS isn't part of AMD's predictions. The 30% number that's been floating around for ages is performance improvement over bulldozer. It's part of their 15% with every new generation goal. Can be achieved with clocks as well, says nothing about IPC.

It was mostly guys at b3d, at least that's where I got the 30% number. I didn't make it up, I was only repeating it.

However the roadmaps all have desktop steamroller pushed off to 2014. AMD has traditionally released their bulldozer lineups in October. AMD laid out basic bdver3 (steamroller) support for GCC about a year ago, but recently AMD made some changes to that. So the chip that is going to be Steamroller is "unofficially delayed" (I use this term because AMD never comitted to October 2013 Steamroller FX release date but it's been that way 2 years in a row) and the software support for it has changed.

I do think Steamroller has been changed, so we don't know what it's actually going to be. Because of that I really don't lean towards this being some sort of CPU announcement or anything. There's been barely any information about Steamroller besides a few slides. Usually AMD is rather quiet when they have something good on their hands and they're loud when they're about to release a turd (JF-AMD + Bulldozer, etc).

If anything AMD has actually succeeded in creating buzz for a product, for once. I still lean towards it being drivers or a new graphics card. AMD having the old TWIMTBP marketing guy on their side definitely has something to do with this, Nvidia marketing is top notch, probably only a few rungs below Apple, and this is the kind of effectiveness I would expect out of Intel or Nvidia, and not AMD.

My hopes are very low, these loud, social media style marketing schemes usually end up, quite honestly, lame.

I would be shocked if it's just a 15% increase in overall performance. Bulldozer shocked.

This is the newest perf chart that was passed around as late as during PD launch:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6396/the-vishera-review-amd-fx8350-fx8320-fx6300-and-fx4300-tested/7

I mean that's the only chart from AMD that actually talks about straight up performance as far as I know.

That was back during the pre-Zambezi days. They've straightened stuff up quite a bit since then.

NVIDIA has dominated the last week with the 780 and 770, and Intel is going to dominate next week and likely beyond with Haswell and the accompanying Z87 motherboards.

wow, a whole week, well why didn't you mention that before applaud.gif , oh, haswell is coming.... there have been so many intel folks who looked at the benches and said themselves that it was no really even an upgrade. but i guess the mother board will make up for it, huh .

Jesus Christ.... AMD should hire you as their accountant or something. Why do you care soo much about their finances? You post the same thing over and over and over and over. Are you a shareholder or something? Jeeze man... give it a rest already.... rolleyes.gif

if their stock drops a single percentage i bet you'll be the first to tell everyone here in seconds...

the model part is likely, the HD8K isn't.

I know not sure why anyone else is not picking up on it. The only other thing that character could be is warframe game.

However, considering the line "always be ready for war" Its obvious that it is the FX-Centurion. Centurion's would lead century's into war in the days of Rome. Was a prestige title. No doubt its what they are doing. Specially considering we are around the time, it was supposed to release anyways. Haswell coming out, AMD looking to distract or counter in some way. It is clear.

And when was that roadmap from? If it was done before bulldozer i'm hardly surprised. seeing that they used quote marks it clearly means that it's pre-2011.
AMD failed so badly with bulldozer they NEEDED to change their roadmap and gains. Seeing as they dipped in performance even in multi-thread that called for an emergency meeting and a roadmap change, it better be 30% this time round.

Just as i thought. Alatar likes to dig up old stuff from the graveyard

I wouldn't ever think AMD would just sit around and let their arses get kicked totally by Intel and Nvidia. They sure have something crafty this time round. Very crafty\

Dominating the mobile x86 market, sure. But from the desktop perspective Haswell contributes basically nothing.

I feel like it being Centurion would make sense, but AMD always used to use char mascots for GFX, so idk.
