[AMD] AMD Teases A Mysterious Picture - Page 23

Sorry for going a bit off-topic, but from what I've heard about the oh so mighty Maxwell will be using unified memory of some kind (and I read something about Fusion-Io aswell), are they not shooting themselves in the foot here, or am I misinformed?

HUMA: Combined memory for the CPU and GPU.
HSA: Programing to make using the GPU half easier.

So, who still thinks trying to get the CPU to use a GPU's VRAM is a good idea and can actually back up their statement with fact that wouldn't make it a worse alternative to just using system RAM.

I don't know how or in what function it will serve but AMD is extending HSA support to discrete GPU's in 2014. Fact.

2013 - Unified memory for CPU and GPU
2014 - HSA compatible GPU's
Source

Sea Islands (Discrete) - New GPU Architecture and HSA Features
Source

And finally the icing on the cake.

2014 - Extend to Discrete GPU

Then call me when they add HUMA to the GPU.

You provided no argument at all.

EDIT: are people really having this hard a time understanding what HSA and HUMA are and what they do?

From my understanding the big push for HSA is HUMA.
