ok well i know for adobe products you need to tell them that you are going to be putting it in a new computer/ reformatting your pc/upgrading your hdd.
Here is the link:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/926511

now for the other applications I am not sure if you need to but would not hurt to double check biggrin.gif

Now i would not advise to copy your data to a new hdd from a old hdd as it is to much work and usally better to just reinstall every thing.
Remember you do not need to repurchase a new OS as the OS is locked on to the Mother board not the HDD.

But if you decide you are going to copy every thing the best software to use usually comes with your ssd, for example look for the Desktop upgrade kits, like the kingston desktop upgrade kit usally a few more $$ than just buying the ssd bare.
Now keep in mind that the hdd has to be smaller than the ssd, *in most software* if the hdd is 1TB but the ssd is 250 GB you may not copy the storage because the hdd is larger even if the hdd has 800GB free space.

Also to give you an idea if you didnt know already 5 min of gameplay is usually 10-20 gb so if you are wanting to buy a hdd to store the raw footage that 1tb is more than enough to store the footage before formatting it.

Hope this helps thumb.gif

SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193
Reason: has very high IOPS which is a major factor, more important than the constant speed.
HDD:

Seagate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148907
Reason: 7200RPM and very affordable

Western Digitial: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148907
Reason: also 7200 RPM with an affordable price.

Also i found this 4tb HDD that fits in your budget.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148907
4 tb doesnt seem to say what RPM it is...

Very important note make sure the motherboard you are going to use supports 3TB/4TB
if it doesnt you will lose about 300GB because of the motherboard drivers.

I have a question, since you are using programs to edit, i think you will find it more suitable to use that $400 to buy a graphics card maybe the GTX 770 as cuda improves rendering speeds by alot and then just use your existing drive for storage.

Now this assuming you are using the little gaming rig not the second rig.

I would say Samsung 840Pro 256GB or Plextor M5P-Xtreme 256GB for the SSD, and either Seagate 7200.14 2/3TB or WD Black 2-4TB for the HDDs. The WD RE drives have the best IOPS of any drive that isn't astronomically priced, and they are quite fast and reliable, but I can't say if the cost is worth it for you or not...

As far as not having to reinstall everything you could just use the windows backup. Back up your data to an external then make a recovery disc. Put the new SSD in and the boot from the recovery disc and follow the instructions. It is that easy.
