eVGA 6600GT AGP8X - Using CPU Fan ;) - Page 2

You can still OC the ram, though it may get hot, so be carefull
The temp sensor is just on the core, not ram. So go by tough, OC the card and run a game, then reach in and feel the ram chips, if they feel super hot, downclock it. Other than that, OC it to hell!

My next door neighbour did this with a 6600LE, same HSF too.

Unless you get mega cooling i would'nt have bothered risking the card.

well guys, i think i failed... i just installed the car and im using WinFox (eventhought my tempo reading thing is not enabled on my card) im getting MUCH MUCH higher temps than with the old fan
doing nvidia stability test (10 Min stability test) and i see idle at 58c... while stability test runs i get up to 91 , 92c!! prob not hard enough to the gpu core or something is up cuz the heatsink its very cool. Also im running with overclocked speeds of 540/1002 (not that much...)

Hey guys, took a bit before i manage to get this working correctly and yall are going to laugh a bit about my way of fixing the fan to actually cool down that gpu LOL..

Well, what i did since the big intel fan didnt touch the core completely was turn the case upside down.. Thats right, lmao....

Now my case its completely upside down and all i had to do was turn around the DVD and the HDD.

Now the sucker yields 65c MAX temps.. no kidding. But i dont find any performance increase by overclocking my vid card.. i got as high as 575/1400 on a eVga Geforce 6600GT 128MB, After 580 i get artifacts though. I don't know why i just dont notice anything big.. maybe 1 or 2 fps increase in EQ2 at same settings.. ALso i had my CPU "Athlon XP 2200+" overclocked to 2100mhz instead of the usual 1800mhz... That prob killed me in performance (dont know..)

Im using Dual Channel DDR (two Corsair PC3200 512mb each) not sure if i have to do any type of overclocking for everythign to come together and increase my overall game performance..

Thing is, the little mod worked so im happy about that lol..
