If you are doing it for your brother then, that's one thing. But none for nothing, the 970 BE is a pretty good chip. I imagine if you put a better cooler and got it to 4.0/4.2 it would be pretty boss. However, a 2500k would really make that 7950 shine too.

I have the hyper 212+ on it and that thing is a bad chip for overclocking. I also used IC diamond as a thermal compound. It would seriously not OC past 3.7. I even had a thread somewhere here on OCN about it. I was asking people for help because it was not overclocking right. I eventually gave up and just OC'd it to 3.7 since most games are GPU oriented.

Haswell's IPC upgrades aren't much and if you're overclocking on air and want to keep it's resale value ... meh. Or just get a used sandy.

If I were to upgrade to haswell and resell the phenom II, how much do you think I could get for the phenom ii with mobo? I also have a coolit water cooling for it... I'd imagine not much... I'd probably be lucky to even get $100 for the CPU, MOBO, and the water cooler.

No way. The jumps from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge to Haswell in terms of CPU performance isn't that great. Integrated graphics are improving a lot- but who cares about that when you're running high end discrete cards like most people here? Also PCI-E 3.0 isn't that big of a deal as of now so until the bottleneck is more than 5% - 10% when running cards in PCI-E 2.0 then I don't see the point.

After reading the less than glowing early Haswell reviews I upgraded my 4.6mhz 2500k to a 4.4mhz 3770k last week. I already have a z77 board that I liked and was none too plused about the motherboard tax for haswell. The pc industry is full of bad products atm. Slower than expect Gfxs (and massively over priced), rubbish w8, no ddr4 and now a tock that feels more like a tickle. No wonder the indusrty is dying.
