Is my PSU on its way out?

Thread Starter
So I bought my Corsair TX650 PSU in 2009 and has been running my computer (of various specs) ever since. So today I had a game open on one monitor and was watching a video on my other when suddenly they both went black and done nothing for about a minute then my PC forcefully rebooted itself.

This has never happened before and I don't have any tools to test the wattage my computer is pulling. Do you think it's time for me to invest in another PSU (I was thinking a 850W - 1000W)?

It's likely, but I'd want to make sure before buying a new one.

In case it really did crap out, you could run two 780s off of a 550W if you really wanted to, but 650W seems more appropriate for future SLI.

Yeah, I think you might want to get a new PSU. About the amount of power, I'm planning to build a new system and really regret that I only had 750W most of the time. Kept me from getting 3 cards or SB-E i7 and overclocking etc. also my PSU is not dual EPS12V.

The PSU will be less efficient if run at a lot lower load than rated output, so keep that in mind.

If you insist on going Corsair then get the AX850. The i-series is kind of a gimmick really with supposedly buggy software, which is where the price premium comes from.

Just letting you know that you got many good options to choose from which might offer better price to performance ratio than Corsair or Seasonic.

I only looked at Corsair because that's all I've ever used and I've never had any issues with them (until now if you could this topic as an issue). I had a feeling the i-series was a bit of a gimmick but I wanted to make sure, which is why I asked here smile.gif
